8 "BEST OF 2018" TRAVEL LISTS TO READ TODAY
It's officially a new year, which means it's time to start planning your next adventure.
From cities hosting major cultural events to the opening of new national parks, it's never been a more exciting time to travel.
For inspiration, check out where these travel experts recommend going in 2018.
THE NEW YORK TIMES
Each year, The New York Times curates a list of places that readers should visit now. It could be that the location is a secret waiting to be discovered or a global hotspot about to host a major event. For 2018, their list includes Chile, which recently debuted an 1,500-mile trail through expanded national parks in Patagonia, and Estonia, which will be celebrating its 100th anniversary. Given the timeliness of their recommendations, the sooner you read the list, the better.
Travel + LeISURE
When Travel + Leisure declares the "best" of anything, we take note. From Fiji to Finland and Bayreuth to Bali, the places on their list span the globe. For most destinations, they include recommendations for deluxe accommodations and note exciting hotel openings planned for 2018.
CONDé NAST TRAVELER
The editors of Condé Nast Traveler take you far afield with their list of must-see destinations for 2018. From the endangered habitat of Antartica to the flourishing wine region of Georgia, their suggestions will have you wondering whether it's finally the year to buy that round-the-world airplane ticket.
National Geographic has assembled an eclectic list of remote and urban destinations for the adventure traveler. There's something for everyone on this list, which includes watching lions in Tanzania's Ruaha National Park to shopping for handmade crafts in Oaxaca, Mexico. To jumpstart your research, check out the "fun fact" provided for each destination. Did you know there are hyenas in Harar, Ethiopia?
For those who love next-level adventures, this is your list. GQ's inspirational (aspirational?) recommendations include joining National Geographic on a 3-week global expedition on a private plane and posting up on a private island in the Seychelles. With so many dream vacations out there, get ready to create your very own bucket list for 2018.
It's no surprise that Outside magazine encourages readers to get outdoors. Hiking, kayaking and surfing are but a few of the adventurous activities that the magazine's editors suggest for 2018. It's the type of list where after booking your flight, you might find yourself investing in some new gear from REI.
Lonely Planet breaks down its 2018 recommendations into four top-10 lists that cover the year's must-visit countries, cities and regions, as well as the best destinations for budget travelers. This last list is particularly notable, highlighting fun destinations like Morocco and Mexico where travelers might score reasonable airfare, accommodations, or activities.
When it comes to prioritizing where to visit, we couldn't agree more with AFAR's approach to find places that offer interesting experiences and the chance to immerse yourself in the local culture. While their recommendations cover the globe, their curated list includes several locations in the United States such as Seattle and Sun Valley.
